In for jury duty Pros: Citizen paid for comfort better than most courhouses in the region (downey,compton,torrance), plenty of plugs in the jury waiting room and seating abound; a few tables if your trying to get work done while you serve your unpaid ($15 for 8 hours is not real pay) time there. Restrooms are clean, microwave available as well as speedy internet Judges are nice enough as are court staff, courtroom cops seem not so pleasant to be doing the job though Cons: (antiquated structural issue with jury duty service) Having to drive beyond your living distance because as I was told they draw a straight line on a map and count mileage as a bird flies not what is actually within range of a courthouse. Judges DO NOT excuse for most reason; no self employed people like us get to use; i'm Loosing money while being as a reason (been to 2 jury service hears several years and judges force you to attend). No consideration is given for your time and money lost while having to go there and deal with waiting for days to go through jury selection to either be forced onto a jury or rejected. *A simple at home phone questionaire or zoom video conference would solve this waste of peopl

It has taken these clowns almost five years to process a divorce case. My estranged spouse and I have been attending these hearings remotely (as neither of us currently lives in LA County anymore) along with countless other couples in a rapid-fire proceeding, which makes us out to be criminals lined up to be shot. I've repeatedly had to take time off of work to wait on call in silence for hours, only to be told fewer than ten words by the judge and then told to check in at a later date. They have not been helpful or communicative with the bureaucratic process we have had to endure, and at this point I'd rather have the case dismissed and refile in a more relevant (and competent) jurisdiction.

I love the Superior Court, the South District Court is a better Venue for Federal Civil Cases for Pro-per litigant versus The United States District Courts for the Central District of California. You can start your Federal Case in this court and if it's necessary it can be removed to the Federal Court.

After reading the comments of others regarding the beauty of this building I was wondering if we were at the same courthouse! Yes, the entrance is massive, which makes people feel small. The concrete throughout is cold and monotone. All in all it sets a person up to feel overwhelmed, insignificant, and empty. As for the considerate customer assistance on the first floor - never crossed my path. I am 70 yrs old and walk slow with a cane. Having incurred injury's in an auto accident from a hit and run driver I am permanently disabled. After standing in line on the first floor for longer than I could tolerate I asked for a chair, was denied, and collapsed onto the floor. EMT'S were quick to arrive. All that was avoidable if I would have been given a chair. Where are all the nice people?
